This month, the Department of Sociology is pleased to host Annette Steffny from the University of Cologne to present and discuss her ethnographic research on the increasingly visible “return to rural” practices in Turkey.
In this study, Steffny examines the everyday lives of highly educated individuals who have left major cities to settle in rural areas in northwestern Turkey, exploring their efforts to build alternative forms of life between urban and rural settings. Based on fifteen months of fieldwork, her research offers a timely contribution to current debates on neo-rurality in Turkey.

The seminar will take place on 15 December 2025 at 14:30, at the Troya Cultural Center A-Amphitheater, Terzioğlu Campus.
